Course Packs and Copyright

Our technician can advise you on the specifics of using copyrighted material fairly and legally in your own research and projects. We can assist you in requesting permission or finding alternatives.

Policies

  • All original expressions of ideas enjoy copyright from the moment that they are produced in durable form. (writing, audio, video, graphics, images, software, websites, etc.)

  • The Fair Dealing exemptions under the Copyright Act (1997) permit limited copying for your own individual study purposes.
    • Any copyright material used must be the focus of study
    • All copyright material used must be credited in your assignment

  • To duplicate or display copyrighted material for any other purpose you must have permission from the Copyright Holder.

  • The ATC Lab will not support or allow the use of copyrighted material in non-academic projects without said permission in writing

Royalty-free Materials

The Multimedia Lab has royalty-free and pre-approved media available for non-commercial use. No fees or advance permission are required to use these materials in your project:

  • BBC, Digiffects, and MaxEFX sound effects collections
  • Gene Michaels, MaxTrax and ReproFile+ production music collections
  • Digital Juice Backdrops collection for PowerPoint, print and video
